Aussie pride on the line in sedan drag race

Powered by

Aussie motoring fans pride themselves on the power of our V8 race cars.

But how does our best muscle car - a Holden Commodore V8 Supercar – stack up when pitted against an electric car - America's fastest four-door sedan, the plug-in Tesla Model S?

Going head-to-head in a recent drag race, it shaped as an enthralling battle with the Tesla renowned for rocketing from 0-100km/h in 3.3 seconds.

The Supercar can hit 100km/h in 3.4 seconds and with a significant weight advantage, the Commodore was expected to the US sedan a tight tussle.

But as this video shows, the Tesla simply goes like the wind and cannot be caught.

Blowing the Holden off the mark, the Tesla quickly streaks away and while the V8 makes some headway, it's no match as they hit the finish line.

The frightening reality is that while the V8 Supercar can only be driven on a race track, the Tesla is available on the market for any motorist.
