A fighter at a Canadian MMA event has been disqualified for repeatedly punching his unconscious rival despite the referee trying to drag him away and stop the fight.

At TKO 37, Strahinja ‘The Werewolf’ Gavrilovic knocked Jo Vallee to the canvas in the first round with a nice overhead right before jumping on his floored rival trying to end the fight.

Footage shows that the referee allows three strikes on the ground before intervening but the official was powerless to stop Gavrilovic, who shrugged off the ref’s efforts to punch an unconscious Vallee four or five more times.

Eventually the officially managed to drag Gavrilovic away, but his blatant disregard for the referee’s instructions cost him the fight, with officials overturning the first minute knockout and awarding the fight to Vallee.

The disqualification after Gavrilova made headlines for a bizarre photo at the weigh-in on Friday (Canadian time) when he The Werewolf had his open mouth on the face of Vallee.
