MLB legend stars in inspirational ad

Retiring New York Yankee Derek Jeter has starred in an inspirational advertisement that honours the five-time World Series champion’s distinguished career.

The ad, created by sports drink manufacturer Gatorade, sees the legendary MLB shortstop walk through the New York borough of Bronx as he heads to Yankee Stadium on game day.

The footage, backed by another New York legend, Frank Sinatra’s ‘My Way’, begins with the 40-year-old riding in the back of a car on his way to the stadium.

Jeter, who has played his entire 20-year career with the Yankees, suddenly stops the car and says: “You know what, I’ll walk from here.”

The 14-time All Star then heads out on foot, meeting fans, signing autographs, stopping to chat with local children and even helping a woman with her phone.

He arrives at the stadium where a massive crowd is waiting, before heading inside and suiting up in the famous blue and white kit.

The ad ends with Jeter emerging from the tunnel to rapturous applause, the former rookie of the year raising his cap, acknowledging the support of the team’s loyal fans.
