Starc half century keeps Aussies decent lead

Powered by

Mitchell Starc has made sure Australia takes a reasonable first innings lead after working his way to a half century on day three of the third test against the Proteas in Adelaide.

The homeside resumed at 6-307 with a 48-run lead over the South Africans thanks to a wonderful knock by Usman Khawaja.

But the left-hander added just seven to his overnight score before being dismissed lbw by South African paceman Vernon Philander.

Meaning Starc had to show composure with the bat for Australia to take a decent lead.

And he did.

The Australian quick hit reached his half century with a boundary smacking spinner Tabraiz Shamsi for four runs. Starc played well off the front foot driving the ball with wonderful timing.

However, reality caught up with the paceman.

Not long after reaching his fifty, Starc was caught and bowled by Rabada on 53.

Shortly after Australia were all dismissed for 383 runs, with a lead of 124.
