Medina lands mind-blowing aerial flip
Brazilian superstar Gabriel Medina has scored a perfect 10 after landing a mind-blowing aerial during his second round victory at the Oi Rio Pro.
Surfing against compatriot Alex Ribero, the 2014 world champion reached into his bag of tricks to deliver this spectacular move.
With the waves reaching only chest high, Medina had eyes only for the air as he pumped down the line before launching himself at the lip and flipping upside-down with a stunning aerial grab to leave fans cheering on the beach.
The brilliant move came after the Brazilian wizard had earlier scored a 9.40 for his third ride and was duly rewarded with a 10 from the judges to give him a 19.40 heat total, easily accounting for Ribero, who finished with a two-wave total of 7.90.
Medina, of course, is no stranger to stunning airs and while some fans are critical of his trick moves most surfers remain in awe of his ability to continually push the boundaries.
And clearly the World Surf League judges are on the same page.
