Medal haul well short of US projections

Leaders at the US Olympic Committee (USOC) had projected Team USA to win 37 medals in PyeongChang - a goal their athletes will not come close to by Sunday when the Winter Games close.

Heading into the final 48 hours of action, the United States have 21 medals. Even if things go well over the handful of remaining events, the team will fall more than 10 medals short of the target.

USOC chief of sport performance Alan Ashley has told AP the team are doing fine.

He says another way to view it is the number of close American calls at the PyeongChang Games. The US have placed fourth or fifth in 21 events.
