Matthew McConaughey inspires college football stars

Hollywood star Matthew McConaughey recently channelled his chest-thumping Wolf of Wall Street character during a motivational speech to the Texas Longhorns college football team.

The 44-year-old graduated from the University of Texas in 1993 and returned to the college to deliver a pep talk to its gridiron team during a practice session.

"I found that when I've done my best work as an actor, it was only when I pushed myself to be better than I ever thought I could be," the Oscar-winning star told players, before urging all of them to join him in some chest thumping similar to that favoured by his high-energy character in The Wolf of Wall Street.

The True Detective star is no stranger to team talks, having portrayed real-life football coach Jack Lengyel in the 2006 film We Are Marshall.

And his efforts with the Longhorns appeared to pay off, after they went on to beat Kansas 23-0 in their next game.
