Man United escape with lucky victory

Referees missing calls isn’t something new but the officiating during this morning’s EPL match between Manchester United and Crystal Palace might have set a new standard for poor refereeing.

United’s Juan Mata flung a free kick into the box which was flicked on by Zlatan Ibrahimovic to Paul Pogba who easily put the ball into the back of the net from about five yards to break the deadlock.

However numerous TV replays seem to show the Swedish international using part of his arm to pass the ball onto Pogba.

Not only that, Pogba also looked offside before tapping the ball pass the goal line.

To make matters worse, Ibrahimovic admitted after the game the call should’ve been for handball.

"I tried to pass to Paul as I saw he was free and I think it touched my hand first then my stomach. I will have to see the images."

Palace replied with an equaliser in the second half before Ibrahimovic wrapped up victory for United with an 88th minute winner.

Sure referees missing calls is part of every sporting landscape no matter what sport it is but for a handballl and an offside call to be missed within the same sequence of play would’ve had Palace supporters up in arms.
