Lay day called at Maui surfing
An eighth consecutive lay day has been called at the women's World Surf League event at Honolua Bay in Hawaii.
Organisers have until December 4 for the final event of the season to conclude and remain hopeful of action kicking off at the Maui Pro on Sunday.
A full day is required to run the heats and the tour's deputy commissioner Jessi Miley-Dyer is confident conditions are on the improve.
"There's certainly a bit more energy around the site today (Saturday) but unfortunately the waves just aren't filling in yet," she said.
"I think what we'll see is more swell fill in throughout the bay as the day goes on but we really need that whole day here so we're not going to be able to get underway."
Australians Tyler Wright and Dimity Stoyle will compete in the first heat against American Tatiana Weston-Webb.
Fellow Aussies Sally Fitzgibbons, Keely Andrew and Laura Enever are also scheduled to compete in later heats, while Hawaiian Carissa Moore is looking to maintain her 900-point championship lead over American Courtney Conlogue to win the title.
