Kookaburras leave it late to beat India

Final quarter goals from Jake Whetton and Aran Zalewski have helped the Kookaburras chalk up a 2-1 victory over India in the second hockey Test match in Chhattishgarh.

India dominated possession in the first half and forced Kookaburras goalkeeper Leon Hayward to make several fine saves.

It was at the 20th minute mark that the Kookaburras finally settled and secured their first penalty corner opportunity.

However, Chris Ciriello's low drag flick was quickly cleared by the Indian defence and three minutes later the home side opened the scoring through Devindar Walmiki.

Heading into the final quarter Kookaburras head coach Graham Reid called for a three-touch style of hockey.

The decision quickly paid dividends when Flynn Ogilvie found Whetton's stick in the circle in the 47th minute to level the scores.

A minute later Zalewski fired towards the goal and good pressure from Orchard the ball make contact with an Indian stick and found the backboard.
