Champion surfer Kelly Slater has revealed his artificial wave pool, a technological feat ten years in the making in his quest to manufacture a perfect wave.

Less than 24 hours after the 2015 World Surfing League tour wrapped up with the world title going to Brazil’s Adriano de Souza, the 11-times world champ Slater took to Instagram to make the announcement.

"Now that the world title has been decided and events for the year have finished, I’m excited to show you what I’ve been sitting on for the past couple of weeks," he wrote.

"For nearly ten years, my team and I have been working on creating the first truly world-class, high-performance, human-made waves.

"I’m proud to say we took our time to get it right, and the first fully-working prototype of the wave now exists."

The location of the freak wave remains a mystery, however Slater promised to reveal more details in the coming weeks, and uploaded a video of him slicing up the perfectly-barrelling right-hander break.

The text "waves roll all day" flashes on the screen as Slater surfs.

"Realistically, I’ve been waiting for this moment since 2005," he says in the video.
