Kangaroo invades race at Cessnock

Here’s something you don’t see every day.

During the final race of the day at Cessnock a kangaroo jumped in and thought he’d take on the runners.

The roo injected himself into the race down the back straight and then made a sharp left turn after realising he could be in real trouble.

The horses in the Hunter Jaguar Land Rover Benchmark 55 Handicap didn’t seem to notice the bouncing intruder and the Kangaroo left the track without incident.

After the race, Jockey Robert Thompson joked that the roo had been part of a “game plan” to take out the competition.

“Fortunately, we got away with it with no one injured,” Thompson told Sky Thoroughbred Central. “Of course, it could have been serious.”
