Sport entertains in all manner of ways, causing agony and ecstasy for fans in equal measure. The one thing that is certain is that supporters around the world are united in their joy at watching the best go at it. To celebrate all that's great about sport, here are the biggest hits from the week that was.

Melbourne veteran Archie Thompson savoured the moment amid suggestions the grand final may have been his final game for champions.

Queensland announced its State of Origin side for Game I on Tuesday, amid the fanfare of a military guard of honour and dance music accompanying the arrival of each player.

After battling to be fit for his first run on appearance for Queensland last year, Manly half Daly Cherry-Evans was ruled out on Wednesday with an elbow injury.
Filling the breach
North Queensland's Michael Morgan was subsequently named as Cherry-Evans' replacement with the Cowboys flyer vying with Roosters prop Dylan Napa to take his place on the bench.
Changing of the guard
NSW also announced its side on Tuesday with Laurie Daley naming Bulldogs pair David Klemmer and Josh Jackson to debut and dumping veterans Anthony Watmough and Luke Lewis.
Redemption time
Roosters halfback Mitchell Pearce was also recalled after missing last year's series win, replacing Bulldogs five-eight Josh Reynolds.
