Junior baseballer hurdles rival for homerun

A junior baseball player channelled the athleticism of an Olympic hurdler to score a sensational homerun at a tournament in America.

Devin Avedissian was standing on third base late last month at the San Marcos Wood Bat Tournament when a wild pitch allowed the batter to wave him home.

Footage of the incident shows the pitch slip past the backstop and off the hoardings as Avedissian sprints towards home plate.

However, the catcher quickly recovers the ball and gets back to the plate in time to make the play and send Avedissian back to the dugout.

But the quick thinking Avedissian anticipates his rival's move and stuns the crowd with a spectacular leap to evade the tag and score a decisive homerun.
