Push for Melbourne Cup public holiday
Online gambling company UBET, has launched an online campaign to make Melbourne Cup Day, the first Tuesday in November, a public holiday for all Australians.
As it stands the race that stops the nation really only stops one state.
Victoria is the only state to officially uphold the public holiday.

Queensland icon and former Brisbane Lions captain Jonathan Brown has urged Aussies to send a message to ‘Big Mal’ Turnbull that everyone deserves a day to “frock up”.
“Together can we get every Australian an extra day off for Cup Day? Probably not, but can we at least bloody try — you bet we bloody can,” Brown says.
