Jai Opetaia keeps unbeaten boxing record

Rising Australian cruiserweight Jai Opetaia is determined not to waste any time after extending his unbeaten professional streak with a successful Australian title defence on Wednesday.

The NSW Central Coast fighter scored a third-round stoppage of Ben Kelleher when the Queensland-based boxer couldn't continue after suffering a suspected broken right hand on the Anthony Mundine- Tommy Browne card at The Star in Sydney.

The 2012 Olympian and former world junior light heavyweight champion dictated terms for most of the brief bout.

The stylish southpaw rocked his opponent with some big left hands before the bout was stopped.

"I can pretty much guarantee if he didn't break his hand, I was going to knock him out," Opetaia said.

""I got him with a couple of left hands and I shook him so it was just a matter of time..

"During this lead-up I had no sparring because I sparred once and I hurt my left hand

"I tried to protect it in the lead-up to the fight.

"Everyone is telling me to take my time and I'm only 22, it's too young.

"But I don't want to waste time, I want to get in there..

"I reckon I've got the skills now to to mix it up with the best.

Former NRL star Richie Fa'aoso suffered a three-round unanimous points loss in his professional heavyweight debut against Ben Sila.

WBO world No.15 lightweight Kye Mackenzie lis likely to move up the rankings after a fourth-round stoppage of outgunned Argentinian Emiliano Garcia.

Mackenzie dropped him twice in the fourth before the bout was stopped and had more trouble with his unsuccessful celebratory backflip.

He called out Australian lightweight rival George Kambosos Jnr.

In the first bout of the night, Troy O'Meley scored a split points win over Dillon Bargero, with both men boasting unbeaten professional records going into the fight.
