IOC pledges $14 m to anti-doping fight

The International Olympic Committee has pledged $US10 million ($A14 million) to fight doping in sports, part of which would go toward storing samples from pre-Olympics testing for 10 years.

IOC president Thomas Bach made the pledge during his speech on Tuesday at a worldwide anti-doping conference being hosted by the World Anti-Doping Agency.

The IOC already stores samples taken at the Games for up to 10 years. It has re-analysed hundreds of samples from the Beijing and London Games that have resulted in at least 123 positive tests.

Bach also said the IOC would commit $US2.5 million each to WADA's research and investigation units; he called on government authorities to match the contribution.
