Indoor ocean created for windsurfers

Whoever said "if you build it, they will come" has been further vindicated after an astonishing windsurfing world championship that was held indoors.

Some of sport's most creative thinkers were believed to be behind the concept, which saw a mini ocean that stretched 90 metres created inside Poland's National Stadium in Warsaw.Thirty-four fans created the artificial environment, generating winds up to 70km/h or almost 38 knots.It's estimated more than 40,000 fans packed into the stadium to witness the event, with competitors vying for supremacy in three disciplines of windsurfing - slalom, freestyle and jumping. For the record, Frenchman Nicolas Akgazciyan defended his overall world indoor crown, after his previous victory in Belgium.
