Ice hockey boy gets floored

Sports warm-ups are usually docile affairs, but that wasn't the case at a recent ice hockey match in Canada.

Fans watching the Oshawa Generals clash with the Niagara Ice Dogs were given a nasty shock when a light framed youngster was floored by 180cm tall Generals player Hunter Smith during a pre-match skate.

Hunter, who weighs 95kg, was skating in the opposite direction to the boy and no doubt couldn't see his tiny figure amongst a throng of players when he literally clotheslined the youngster like he was checking a rival.

The impact sent the child, who weighed little more than 30kg, straight to the ice where he appeared to strike his head.

But showing the true resilience of a junior player, he promptly jumped to his feet with the aid of another player, before skating away as if nothing had happened.

A concerned Hunter and another teammate immediately went to the boy's aid, but he was quick to indicate all was okay.

The collision has become an online hit and while it left Hunter and other Generals players momentarily rattled the youngster's toughness may well have proved an inspiration as they went on to beat the Ice Dogs 4-1.
