Mornington trainer Kane Harris has been fined $3000 after the racehorse Crooner returned a positive swab.

The Harris-trained Crooner returned a positive to Dexamethasone, a short-acting corticosteriod, in a pre-race urine sample taken at Flemington on January 1.

The gelding finished ninth in the Flemington race and has been disqualified.

Harris fronted the Racing Appeals and Disciplinary Board on Thursday and pleaded guilty to presenting Crooner to race when a prohibited substance was detected in its system.

He was fined $2500 and another $500 in relation to the keeping of treatment records.

Fellow trainer Darryl Blackshaw pleaded guilty to bringing Gallant Spur to race at Traralgon on December 6 last year with a prohibited non-steroidal anti-inflammatory in his system.

Gallant Spur was disqualified from his win but Blackshaw was not penalised.
