Sheidel favourite for Bel Esprit Stakes

Multiple Group One placegetter Under The Louvre resumes in the Listed Bel Esprit Stakes at Caulfield but it is former West Australian-based mare Sheidel who is the early favourite.

Sheidel is at $4.60 to win her third Melbourne start since joining the David Hayes and Tom Dabernig stable in Saturday's 1100m sprint.

A multiple Listed winner in Perth, Sheidel has finished third and fourth respectively in her two Melbourne races.

The mare sprawled at the start in a 1000m handicap on April 9 at Sandown, finishing fourth to Bullpit who will be among her rivals again on Saturday along with runner-up Beau Rada.

Trainer Robert Smerdon says topweight Under The Louvre, a three-time Group One placegetter in 2015 including in the Oakleigh Plate and Sir Rupert Clark Stakes at Caulfield, has had a good build-up to his return.

Under The Louvre is at $5.50 along with Pittsburg Flyer who finished fourth in this year's Oakleigh Plate before being unplaced in The Galaxy in Sydney.
