Rosehill comeback for promising stayer

French import Award Season will make his race day comeback at Rosehill after more than 2-1/2 years sidelined by injuries.

Now an eight-year-old, Award Season showed staying potential at his initial Australian campaign for Kris Lees during the 2012-2013 racing season.

He won four of his eight starts for the Newcastle trainer, three of them in succession.

However, a series of tendon injuries curtailed the horse's burgeoning career and Saturday's race will be his first start since March 2013.

Lees doesn't anticipate a winning return but he is looking forward to rewarding the horse's patient owners by getting him back to the track.

"He's had a long, slow build-up," Lees said.

"He hasn't had much galloping because of his issues so it's probably going to take a couple of runs to switch him on."

Award Season will line up in the fifth race at Rosehill where his opponents include the David Vandyke-trained duo of Prince Cheri and Sir John Hawkwood.
