Pride seeking stakes atonement at Rosehill

While a late plan to send stable star Terravista to Perth didn't come off, Joe Pride is marching on and looking to score a stakes victory back home in Sydney.

The trainer made the disappointing journey west with Terravista who beat home two runners in the Group One Winterbottom Stakes at Ascot last Saturday.

Pride makes no excuses for the Group One-winning sprinter after he emerged from the race in good order.

"Sometimes I find when they go into the race really well and come out of it really well, the middle you can treat as a bit of an aberration," he said.

"You march on and you get the right result next time."

His disappointment was eased by winners at Canterbury on Wednesday and Gosford on Thursday.

And Mr Manhattan can give Pride another boost in the Listed Starlight Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill on Saturday.

"It looks to be a fast race which is what he likes," Pride said.

He admits it shapes as a tough test for Mr Manhattan who was a last-start Saturday winner at Canterbury on November 5.

"He's exposed at this level but he's earned his spot in the field," Pride said.

Mr Manhattan comes up against Group One placegetter Shiraz and in-form mare Nieta who is the $2.80 favourite to make a winning step up to black-type racing.

He is a $9.50 chance, behind stablemate Kuro at $8 - the same price as Shiraz and Bachman.

"It's a pretty good Listed race for an off-season race," Pride said.

Kuro is in doubt to start with Pride disappointed with barrier 11 of 13.

The gelding, who was the Galaxy runner-up last year, has been in solid form with runner-up finishes in midweek and Saturday grade in his two starts this campaign.

"He's going well and I don't want to unnecessarily torch him," Pride said.

"There's a lot of races for him so when it doesn't look like the right assignment sometimes you've got to pull back a little bit."

The stable has a host of chances on the program including veteran stayer Destiny's Kiss in the Listed ATC Cup (2000m) as well as Wine 'N' Dine, Painte and Realise Potential in benchmark races.
