'Might find myself on a horse': NRL legend Billy Slater headlines star-studded Melbourne Cup line up

Some of the biggest names in sport and entertainment will be on deck for this year's Lexus Melbourne Cup Carnival.

Nine will have the broadcast rights for the biggest race week of the year from November 2 and the network will trot out experts and superstars alike.

Iconic sports broadcaster Eddie McGuire will lead the coverage, with James Bracey on mounting yard duties, while world-renowned racing expert Francesca Cumani will be providing analysis throughout the week.

NRL legend Billy Slater will also put his horse racing background to good use and is set to interview winning jockeys.

"It's gonna be so exciting to be on the team that goes down and broadcasts the Melbourne Cup Carnival," the Storm great told Nine's Today.

"Those four days at Flemington, it's gonna be really exciting to be there and bring all our viewers into the action. I'll get the ability to get in behind the barriers and talk to some of the jockeys after they win some of the biggest races of their life.

"I might find myself on a horse and get out there amongst it and give the viewers an insight into what they are thinking and how calm it can be behind a barrier.

"Then also how emotional it can be after a race and talking to the jockeys that work so hard to get there." 

2015 winning jockey Michelle Payne OAM will add her expertise to the broadcast, while Olympic gold medallist Jessica Fox will add colour from around Flemington.

David Gately and Grace Ramage will be the form analysts for Melbourne Cup week.
