Kiwi racing reporter loses the plot

Horse racing experts are often known for their exuberance - particularly during the closing stages of a big event.

But TAB Trackside presenter Aidan Rodley took it to a new level during the Australian Derby at Royal Randwick on Monday, losing the plot as Kiwi three-year-old Mongolian Khan cantered to victory.

Unaware he was being filmed as he watched the race in a studio, Rodley leapt from his chair, screaming and pumping his fist in excitement as the thoroughbred stormed to the post in the $2 million race.

During the race he can be heard yelling "Come on Opie" in reference to jockey Opie Bosson, riding Mongolian Khan, and cheering like a punter who had placed his last dollar on the race.

The footage has proven a hit on YouTube with video of Rodley's antics racking up over 6000 views and earning the broadcaster plenty of ribbings.

But while the race expert has since tweeted that he has no intention of watching the "embarrassing" footage, his excitement may well be explained by the fact he manages Bosson.

And according to those in the know, it's likely Rodley had more than few dollars on Mongolian Khan.
