Jockey Glen Boss rejects Payne article

Champion jockey Glen Boss says his words were "turned upside down" in a report about Melbourne Cup winning jockey Michelle Payne.

After becoming the first woman to win the Cup, Payne said anyone who doubted the ability of female jockeys could "get stuffed".

The Daily Telegraph report, also published by Melbourne's Herald Sun, quoted Boss as saying Payne had a "bee in her bonnet" after Tuesday's race and would probably regret her comments.

"It's fair to say it still will be a male-dominated sport, that's the way it's been for a long time and the sooner people get their heads around that the better," he said, according to the report.

Mr Boss used Twitter on Thursday to argue his words had been taken out of context. The tweets have since been taken down.

In the report, Boss was also cited as saying Payne was breaking down barriers in racing and agreeing there was "underlying" chauvinism in the sport.
