Jockey gets suspended for humiliating race fail

A jockey who thought he had run his way to victory had the shock of his life when he realised there was still one lap to go.

Anthony Allen thought he had pulled off a remarkable win on Catch Me Latar at Beaudesert, when the gelding dashed away from rivals on the outside.

The eight-year-old whizzed past the post four lengths clear of the pack but as he started slowing down the rest of the field started speeding up along the inside and continued the race.

“I reckon he has misjudged the laps here,” the racecaller said.

Catch Me Latar who went on to finish last after going into the race second favourite, while Allen was suspended for six weeks by stewards for the miscalculated ride.
