Duryea appeals cobalt conviction

Trainer Darlene Duryea has appealed a 12-month disqualification for a cobalt offence.

Queensland Racing Integrity Commission stewards charged Duryea after cobalt was detected in a urine sample taken from Dansu who raced a at Ipswich on December 30.

At a hearing in February, Duryea made detailed submissions and provided a number of written exhibits in her defence .

After the inquiry resumed stewards charged Duryea with bringing a horse to race with a prohibited substance in cobalt.

Duryea pleaded not guilty but after considering submissions stewards were satisfied to the required standard she was guilty.

Duryea was disqualified for 12 months set to expire in May 2018.

Chief Steward Allan Reardon said Duryea had applied for an internal review appeal and had been granted a stay of proceedings pending a decision.
