Catch A Fire powers to Armanasco victory

Catch A Fire has made the leap from a maiden win to claim the Angus Armanasco Stakes at Caulfield.

The three-year-old filly was cheered on by a large group of owners as she raced to Group Two success in Saturday's 1400m race for fillies.

Catch A Fire resumed this campaign with a third in the Magic Millions Maiden at the Gold Coast in January before breaking through for her first win in her sixth start earlier this month at Moonee Valley.

Co-trainer David Hayes was confident the filly could make her presence felt on Saturday and after sitting outside the leader Cana, Catch A Fire ($10) kicked clear in the straight and held a 2-1/4 lengths advantage over runner-up Mossin' Around ($5).

Group One winner Pasadena Girl ($4.40) closed for third, another long head away, in her autumn return.

"We went up to Queensland with her and she ran really well there and then we brought her back and she won the soft maiden," Hayes said.

"We really fancied her today in this race to sit outside the leader and dominate."

The Group Two Kewney Stakes (1400m) at Flemington is the next target for Catch A Fire in two weeks.
