Swan Hill trainer Austy Coffey has been fined $2500 over a positive swab to caffeine returned by one of his horses after a maiden win.

Coffey pleaded guilty to presenting Burrum's Buzz to race at Swan Hill on September 23 when caffeine and its metabolite Theophylline were detected in a post-race urine sample taken from the gelding.

The Racing Appeals and Disciplinary board fined Coffey $2000 on Wednesday.
