Hayne recovers after shocking start

Jarryd Hayne has bounced back after making a shocking start to his NFL debut as the San Francisco 49ers easily beat Minnesota Vikings.

In his first play in the NFL, the Australian misjudged a punt and attempted a diving catch coming forward which he dropped to hand possession to the opposition.

Hayne was solid after the fumble, catching another punt and making 13 yards with four carries including a 10-yard gain for a first down as the backup running back.

He also made seven yards as a receiver after he stepped the first tackler following a pass from quarterback Colin Kaepernick.

Hayne's roommate and fellow running back Carlos Hyde starred in the 20-3 win.

Hyde ran for 168 yards with 26 carries and also scored San Francisco’s two touchdowns.

Hayne may be looking a time as the 49ers’ backup running back depending on the nature of Reggie Bush’s calf injury.

Bush was ruled out for the game after being hurt in the first quarter trying to make a one-yard carry on a third down.
