Trot driver finishes race in rival's sulky

It's usually tough to find any luck at a racetrack but that certainly wasn't the case for harness racing driver Glenn Douglas in Victoria on Sunday.

With about 100 metres to go until the finish of a race at Charlton, Douglas' horse Pocket Thedeal galloped back through the field before locking wheels with rival Knight Sky Safari.

As Douglas was thrown loose from his sulky, he was grabbed in a piece of quick thinking by Knight Sky Safari's driver Michael Bellman.

Bellman hauled him up into the cart – as well as doing a great job to keep his horse running straight – and the pair crossed the finish line together.

"Douglas is getting a ride back in the sulky of Knight Sky Safari," said the racecaller.

"Gee, they're good mates aren't they?"

Once the race was over, Douglas dismounted before trying to catch the runaway Pocket Thedeal which was eventually reeled in a by a clerk of the course.

Thankfully, both the driver and the horse were not injured.
