'That is a horror movie': Gunnar Nelson's bloodbath victory stuns fans at UFC 231
Returning welterweight Gunnar Nelson has pulled off one of the most gruesome victories ever seen inside the octagon, choking out Brazilian Alex Oliveira in a pool of blood.
Nelson looked ferocious on Sunday, despite his year hiatus from the sport, as the pair contested a tight first round at UFC 231.
The Icelandic fighter gained the upper hand in the second, where upon taking Oliveira to the ground he worked himself in a full mount to rain elbows down on his opponent.
That was enough to split the Brazilians head as blood poured onto the canvas, while Nelson wasted no time in shimming around to his back for the winning rear-naked choke.
“I was just thinking the choke is going to be slippery and nice,” Nelson gruesomely quipped to FloCombat after the win.
“I caught him with that nice elbow that opened him right up, and then another one followed ... it was a nasty cut, and that’s really what finished the fight.”
The fighting world were in awe over the graphic victory and promptly rushed to Twitter to react to the madness.
