Gridiron: Quarterback suffers gruesome leg injury

Powered by

A gridiron player has suffered one of the sport’s most gruesome injuries after his leg ended up facing the wrong way during a college match in the US.

Baylor quarterback Seth Russell looked to scamper for a first-down when he spotted a hole in the defence in the third quarter against the Oklahoma Sooners.

But Russell immediately regretted his decision when his left leg got caught in the wrong position after being brought down in a two-man tackle.

Replays of the incident show Russell’s leg twist under the shoulder of a rival and his foot face the wrong direction before being left dangling at an unnatural angle.

The seriousness of the injury was apparent with both sides quickly calling the trainers on to the field.

He was later stretchered off via a medicart with a suspected broken leg.

The day got even worse for Baylor with Oklahoma running away with the win 45-24.
