Gridiron player strikes luckiest all-time conversion

A US high school gridiron player has kicked one of the luckiest touchdown conversions ever after his butchered attempt deflected off an opponent’s helmet and through for the extra point.

South Dakota school Dell Rapids were lining up for a routine extra point after scoring a touchdown in the 51-0 mauling of rivals Milbank, when their kicker did the unthinkable – shanked his shot from dead in front of the posts.

In the footage, the kicking team set their defensive wall before the perfectly placed snap sets up the kicker.

However, the player, no.30, under no pressure from the opposing team, horribly miscues his shot, firing a low kick that looks likely to land well below the crossbar.

But miraculously, the ball hits an opposing player’s helmet, loops up into the air, bounces off the crossbar and through for the point.

The remarkable play could go down in sport’s history as a once-in-a-lifetime as, in the words of the video’s announcer, “you will not see that again.”
