Gridiron player kills raccoon for selfie

An emerging gridiron star has killed a raccoon with a wrench following a road-side selfie that went horribly wrong.

University of Nebraska defensive end Jack Gangwish stopped to take a picture with the animal when it attacked him, leaving two puncture wounds in his leg.

Knowing that he would need to capture the raccoon to get it tested for rabies, the 21-year-old tried to subdue the animal with a wrench from the back of his truck.

However, the raccoon died in the process.

"It was a raccoon selfie gone completely wrong," Gangwish told The Lincoln Journal Star.

He said the animal is being tested.

Gangwish took to Twitter following the incident, which happened a few miles outside Lincoln, in several tweets that have since been deleted.

“Guys… I got bit by a raccoon… It just looked so soft and friendly I couldn’t help it!” Gangwish posted alongside a picture of his bloodied leg.

"I googled Rabies symptoms.. Irritability, muscle spasms, aggressiveness, confusion?" he wrote on another Tweet. "I think football gives you Rabies."

However, he later tweeted the test results came back negative.
