Defensive end Greg Hardy will miss the first 10 games of the 2015 season after the National Football League's disciplinary committee suspended him for "conduct detrimental to the league."

Hardy will also not receive a paycheck during the ban, which stems from domestic abuse charges against him that were dismissed in February after the alleged victim failed to testify.

Now of the Dallas Cowboys, Hardy was found guilty by a North Carolina judge last July but appealed the decision, asking for a jury trial.

According to court papers, the alleged victim, Nicole Holder, never made herself available to the prosecutor's office to prepare for trial and law enforcement officials were unable to locate her to serve a subpoena.

The prosecution said it had reliable information she had reached a civil settlement with Hardy, then a member of the Carolina Panthers.

According to police, Hardy assaulted his then-girlfriend and threatened to kill her during an altercation.

The woman said he choked her and threw her onto a couch covered with assault rifles and shotguns before telling her all the weapons were loaded.
