TV channel robs golf fans of winning putt

Devout American golf fans were left screaming at their televisions after a weather report broke in over the final, tension-riddled moments of the Heritage Classic.

Jim Furyk and Kevin Kisner were locked in a nerve-jangling, winner-takes-all play-off in the near $8 million tournament on US channel CBS.

But after 73-holes failed the separate the compatriots, Furyk was finally gifted the opportunity to make the winning putt from nearly four-metres on the second play-off hole.

Problem was, some fans in Savannah, Georgia, were left in the dark at the pivotal moment as local channel, WTOC11, a CBS affiliate, switched programs.

Video of the hilarious gaffe shows Furyk lining up the putt and clearing away any obstacles as Kisner stands stony-faced, waiting to see if he will get another shot at the title.

But just as the 44-year-old Furyk is about to pull the trigger, the screen cuts to WTOC11's First Alert Weather, updating the local audience on a system moving through the area.

The sudden change of programming cost Georgian natives the chance to see Furyk make the putt and end his four-year drought on the PGA Tour.
