Tiger to 'get away' after missing Open cut

Tiger Woods said he couldn't wait to get away after missing the halfway cut in the Open Championship at Royal Portrush.

The Masters winner followed his first-round 78 with a battling 70 to finish on six-over-par on Friday.

"I just want some time off just to get away from it," said Woods, who had four birdies in his round but three bogeys, including at the last two holes.

"I had a long trip to Thailand and then trying to get ready for this event, to play this event, it's been a lot of travel, a lot of time in the air, a lot of moving around and different hotels and everything. I just want to go home."

Three-time Open champion Woods won his 15th major with victory at at Augusta National in April, a near-miraculous comeback after four back surgeries in recent years.

But the 43-year-old looked to be struggling with a stiff back in the cooler conditions in Northern Ireland and will head to warmer climes after missing the cut for the second time in his past three visits.

"I'm going to take a couple of weeks off and get ready for the (Fed-Ex) Playoffs," he said.

"We've got the playoffs coming up, and anything can happen. Last year I almost stole the whole FedExCup at the very end."

Woods played just three events between the Masters and the Open, including the other two majors, but said he was still confident of success over the rest of the year.
