Fans refunded as opening practice round at Augusta National cancelled because of wild weather
The opening practice for the 89th Masters was suspended due to storms as spectators were evacuated and play suspended.
A notice by the Augusta National Golf Club asked spectators to exit the course at 11.25am local time, with several players still on the driving range and greens when the call came in.
Around 50,000 fans usually attend the practice round ahead of play on Thursday AEST, and officials announced the course would not reopen with ticket holders being sent refunds in May.

"We are disappointed our patrons could not fully enjoy today's practice round, but the safety of everyone at Augusta National is our highest priority and was the determining factor in the decision to cancel," Augusta National chairman Fred Ridley said.
"We look forward to welcoming back our Monday patrons next year as well as celebrating a wonderful 89th Masters tournament ahead of us this week."

A separate Augusta National statement said: "Due to expected inclement weather and safety concerns, patron gates will not open as scheduled for Monday's practice round.
"All patron parking lots will remain closed until further notice.
"No patrons should approach Augusta National until more details are released."
Local reports in Augusta state have urged people to stay away because of "damaging wind gusts and heavy rainfall leading to flash flooding"
Inclement weather has impacted the tournament in the past, with three massive trees uprooted before play was suspended in 2023.
