Solheim Cup USA v Europe match stopped after sprinklers go off

Players at the Solheim Cup got a nasty surprise when sprinklers went off mid-round. 

USA's Paula Creamer was in a tight match against Europe's Georgia Hall on the seventh hole following a putt, when she was sprayed by a timed sprinkler that emerged from the ground. 

As players moved to a safe distance and watched the sprinkler douse the green with water, play was halted for several minutes.

Officials frantically tried to control the situation. One match official stood directly on the sprinkler-head to try and smother the water before the green got too damp. 

"Nobody knows when that's going to happen," Creamer said after winning the match 1-up at Des Moines Golf and Country Club.

"Maybe it put her off, maybe not."

The Americans went on to win the Solheim Cup  16½-11½.
