Rose hits spectator in the head on final hole

Golfer Justin Rose shanked a shot at victory in the PGA Tour when he hit a spectator flush on the head on the final hole of the Memorial Tournament.

Rose was tied with Swede David Lingmerth heading into the 72nd hole when he found the right fairway bunker with his tee shot.

With the ball below his feet, the former US Open needed to make perfect contact with the ball to navigate the 164m to the green and give himself a shot at victory.

But the 34-year-old horribly shanked his attempt with the ball flying even further to the right and picking out a spectator in the crowd milling around the 18th green, smashing him square on the head and dropping him to his knees.

However, it was reported the man was uninjured by the blow and Rose was later able to apologise by giving him some memorabilia.

And despite the drama caused by the wayward shot, Rose was able to compose himself and get up-and-down for a par and send the tournament into a play-off.

But that's where his luck ran out with Lingmerth securing the win on the third play-off hole.
