Matthew eyes another Aust Open golf crown

Scotland's Catriona Matthew still feels at home among the golfing kids - otherwise, she'd be at home with her kids.

Matthew is in contention to win another Women's Australian Open crown, some 20 years after claiming her first in 1996.

"I hadn't really thought about it being 20 years ago," Matthew said after carding a second-round 69 on Friday at The Grange in Adelaide to be eight under for the tournament.

The 46-year-old said she loved competing against the LPGA's young stars including world No.1 Lydia Ko, aged 18.

"That is the beauty of golf ... it doesn't matter what your age is - as long as you can hit the golf ball and still get it in the hole," she said.

"Age isn't a barrier.

"I would say my game is getting better, actually. I mean it has to - the standard has improved so much over the 20 years."

And if she could no longer compete with golf's young upstarts?

"I'd be at home with the kids," said Matthew, a mother a two girls.
