Golf: Aussie golfer forced onto intravenous drip in PGA Tour

Australian golfer Matt Jones was forced onto an intravenous drip after succumbing to a mystery illness midway through the second round in the Travelers Championship on the PGA Tour.

The reigning Australian Open champion was captured slumping on his bag with just four holes to play with commentators believing he was just taking a "little siesta".

However, it quickly became apparent there was something seriously wrong with the 36-year-old after it was reported he'd needed an intravenous drip after starting the back nine.

Jones had complained he was feeling unwell and "achey" before the start of play but decided to battle through the effects in a bid to make the cut.

But a mixed card had the world No.86 in danger of missing the weekend.

That was until the final hole of the day when he dragged himself out of the doldrums and sank a clutch long-range birdie putt from off the green.

Jones eventually finished on two-under, a solitary shot above the cut line.

Compatriot Marc Leishman on the hand had no such worries and caught the front runners to take a share of the lead into the weekend.
