Langley lands amazing cliffhanger putt

American golfer Scott Langley has received a first-hand lesson in the old idiom: patience is a virtue, after landing an astonishing cliffhanger putt in a US tournament.

The 25-year-old was playing the final round of the Memorial Tournament, in Ohio when he landed a perfect 10-foot birdie putt - but only after waiting an agonising 26 seconds for the ball to drop into the cup.

As this video shows, Langley stroked the ball right on target on the 10th hole before watching with bated breath as it hung on the lip of the cup.

During the pause, the golfer even had enough time to walk around the hole and chat with playing partner Bubba Watson - possibly cursing his luck - until the putt suddenly dropped.

For the record Langley finished a tie for 28th behind Japanese pro Hideki Matsuyama, who won the event.
