Bunkered golfer forced to hit 'Texas Wedge'

An injured golfer has taken the term 'Texas Wedge' to a whole new level after being forced to use the putter from a bunker to snare a miraculous par in a US tournament.

University of Texas golfer Beau Hossler was forced to rely on the 'Texas Wedge' – a shot from off the green using a putter – when disaster struck in his semi-final match of the NCAA tournament.

Playing his second shot into the par-five, Hossler claimed he felt a sharp pain in his left shoulder with the golfer and his coach testing the affected area on the green.

But the injury quickly became a major problem with Hossler dramatically clutching at his arm after a wild tee shot on the next hole.

Miraculously, the hobbled Hossler was able to score birdie on both holes to maintain his advantage.

But the Longhorn saved his best for last when his second shot on the 17th hole found the greenside bunker.

Prevented from taking a full swing, Hossler took out his putter and crashed the ball out of the trap to just off the green, albeit nine metres past the hole.

But showing a magic touch from the fringe, Hossler drained the devilishly quick up-and-down putt to win his match 2-and-1 and send his team into the final against Oregon.

However, Hossler's injury prevented him from taking his place in the final and the Longhorns went down 3-and-2.
