Whitney Hillier has lost the lead but she is still only two shots off Christine Wolf heading into the final day of the Hero Women's Indian Open.

The Australian overnight leader just scraped into par in her third round despite playing an error-free front nine with a birdie on the par-4 ninth at the DLF Golf and Country Club in Gurugram on Saturday.

But she came unstuck with a double bogey on the par-4 13th and a bogey on the par-4 14th immediately afterwards.

Hillier managed to recover with back-to-back birdies on the 15th and 16th holes to give herself a chance in the final round on Sunday, but she surrendered the lead to Wolf.

The Austrian moved out in front after a blemish-free 67 and is eager to atone for last year, when a quadruple bogey nine on the 18th hole of her third round blighted her chances of victory.

"From the start of the season I was just thinking, 'I can't wait to be in India'. It took me a while (to get over the heartache). I don't know how long exactly, but it just kept coming up," Wolf said.

"It was mostly at the start of the season, but not anymore."

Meanwhile England's Meghan MacLaren dropped a shot at the 17th, which proved decisive in handing Wolf the outright lead heading into the last round.

"I'm right there at the top of the leaderboard and I can't complain too much," said MacLaren, who is on seven-under overall.

"I played pretty solid and felt like I was somewhere in between the first and second rounds. I had to grind at times, which I did and I also hit some really good iron shots and holed some putts.

"I left a few out there but overall did things well."

The only other Australian in the tournament is Becky Kay, who carded a two-over 74 in her third round to be five-over and 13 shots off the lead.
