Crowe's wings clipped at Aust Amateur golf

Giant-killing teen golfer Harrison Crowe's Australian Amateur Championship campaign has ended a day after he eliminated title favourite David Micheluzzi.

Crowe, 17, stunned the world No.6-ranked amateur at the Woodland's Golf Club in Melbourne on Thursday to make the last 16, but the New South Welshman could not prolong his challenge against Jake Hughes.

The Northern Territory's sole representative advanced to the round of 16 with a tense 1-up victory over Crowe on Friday following a three hour rain delay but could not back-up against another New South Welshman, Justin Warren.

Hughes sunk a clutch par putt on 18 before claiming the match with Crowe on the first extra hole, but had no answer against Warren who romped to a 6 and 4 triumph.

The German contingent was also celebrating after Michael Hirmer and Jannik De Bruyn beat New Zealand's Jake Lee and Michael Farr (England) 2 and 1 to advance to the quarters.

However, the duo's compatriot Alexandre Herrmann is out after he lost 3 and 2 to New South Welshman Nathan Barbieri.

Victoria's Kyle Michel is also still alive after knocking New Zealander David Hillier, 2 and 1 while Blake Windred claimed an all NSW match-up with Jordan Garner 5 and 3.

Conor Purcell, who eliminated defending champion Keita Nakajima in the round of 16, also proved too clinical for England's Thomas Sloman, winning 3 and 2 to make the last eight.

Singapore's Donovan Lee claimed the last berth with a 3 and 2 margin over Victoria's Matias Sanchez.

In the women's division, Australia's title hopes rest with Queenslanders Cassie Porter and Isabelle Taylor plus Steph Bunque (Victoria) after they progressed to the quarter-finals.

Bunque needed the second extra hole to subdue Doey Choi (NSW), while Japan's Yuri Yoshida also claimed victory on the 20th green over compatriot Tsubasa Kajitani.

Carmen Lim won an all-Kiwi contest with Darae Chung 4 and 3; South Korean pair Hong Yaeeun and Min A Yoon are well-placed and Japan's Riri Sadoyama ended the title hopes of Queenslander Hye Park.

The tournament ends on Sunday.
