Professional golfer Daniel Popovic was left cowering when an aggressive kangaroo turned his practice round into a sparring session.

The former Australian PGA Championship champion was heading to the chipping green at the Heritage Golf and Country Club in Victoria when he was stopped in his tracks by the fired-up marsupial.

In a video shared on Popovic's Twitter account, the kangaroo starts its warm-up by practicing its close quarters fighting technique on a red flag, lashing out with a number of swipes.

At the next flag, the fully grown adult launches into a full-scale kickboxing session when it cuffs the pole with a combination that was finished off with a powerful two-leg attack.

A clearly amused Popovic can be heard telling the kangaroo to "get off the chipping green".

He later admonished the animal's behaviour for interrupting his practice session.

"Just wanted to practise (sic) my chipping while it's sunny at @HGCCGolf," Popovic wrote on Twitter.

"This is just a little too kangarude."
