Adelaide to host women's Aussie golf open

Adelaide will host its first Australia Open golf tournament in 18 years when the women's event is staged in the South Australian capital from next year.

SA Tourism Minister Leon Bignell says his state has secured the rights to the tournament for the next three years.

Melbourne has hosted eight of the past nine women's opens, including last February's win by Lydia Ko, with Royal Canberra hosting in 2013.

Adelaide hasn't hosted a men's open since 1998, and a women's open since 1994.

The city will revolve the tournament, with Grange Golf Club hosting next year followed by Royal Adelaide and then Kooyonga.

Bignell said next year's event would deliver about $3.7 million to the economy, and estimated international media exposure to be $4.4 million.
